Beach House Suites

I found out about the beach house suites from the Goop website. My husband and I thought this would be a great way to spread out with our four children while still enjoying the amenities and beauty of the historic Don Cesar. When we pulled into the parking lot we were a bit hesitant because it looks like an old motel from the roadside. The two bedroom suite was spacious and we had a washer/dryer and a full kitchen but we also were sharing one bathroom amongst the six of us. The unit was clean and well furnished but housekeeping only came by once a day usually in the morning before we’d leave to go outside so we would just get extra towels. The beds were comfortable but our unit had a lot of outside noise that would keep you up at night if you aren’t accustomed to that so I’d recommend some type of white noise. Road noise and noises around the complex are very loud inside. There is also a lot of artificial light from the outside walkway that leaks into the bedroom we stayed in and the curtains they use don’t block it out completely. Our children enjoyed the pool and soccer but preferred the pool at the Don Cesar hotel so we walked over there most days. We really didn’t interact much with any staff but it was the week before Christmas. This place is a great fit for large families, I just wish more care and attention had been put into the amenities here as well as taking care of simple things like making sure the curtains in the bedrooms next to the outdoor walkways are blackout curtains that drape and don’t leak. If we visit the Don Cesar hotel again we would just stay at the hotel itself. The main thing is to realize that the Beach House Suites are nothing like the hotel, it’s a half a mile down the beach and staying there would be a significantly different experience.

Great location right on the beach and benefiting from the corporate relationship with the Don Cesar Hotel, about a 15 minute walk down the beach. Perfect. On the downside, there's no bar during the evenings as it closed at 6pm when we were there. This therefore gives a real lack of ambiance in the place when guests might actually want to stay on site during the evening rather than going out and spending their money elsewhere. We also encountered an issue with the housekeeping staff, one in particular, who was determined to kick us out on our last day before we were ready to leave. Parking is available on site and has been from day one. Unfortunately they now charge each evening which they never used to do and quite frankly, they don't need to. It's just an extra tax on guests. Unacceptable, period. If these negative comments can be addressed, I would definitely give 5 stars as my overall rating.

Prime beach front location, great staff, very clean and spacious rooms, but the resort falls well short of the high expectations associated with the Don Cesar name. This hotel should enhance and embody the Don Cesar by providing a 5 star experience as an ancillary hotel for additional space that can accommodate larger parties, but the building exterior, pool area, and facility needs a major refresh and overhaul. With some capital improvements to the facilities and resort area, it could be the upscale hotel that it should be. The house suites are still far better than most of the hotels on the beach, and they offer a shuttle to the Don Cesar and all of it's amenities. The proximity of the location to everything and beach access is supreme and can’t be beat. We enjoyed our stay and will be back.
